Compass Point Events is one of those venues that feels tucked away in its own little pocket of the city. Big oak trees, open space, right on the water. It’s quiet out there. In a good way. It gives you room to breathe a bit, which is rare for New Orleans weddings. It one of my favorite venues too, because my father used to work there. Not when it was an event venue, but back when it was the office space for a tow boat company Compass Marine. From what I was told; the way those little shotgun houses got set up like that was, instead of being torn down, when the company expanded they were moved there to be used as offices. It really is the perfect wedding venue now. The managers of the venue are great too, I love working Erin.

This day had a little bit of rain in the mix.

One of those in-between days. The kind where you can still be outside, but a tent just makes everything smoother. And honestly, it looked great. The ceremony setup under the tent, with that soft overcast light coming through, gave everything a really clean, natural feel.

Overcast skies are kind of a win for portraits. The light is soft, even, and super flattering. Add a tent into that and I can bounce flash off the ceiling to blend with the daylight. It keeps everything looking natural but polished. It’s one of those little things I’m always thinking about as a New Orleans wedding photographer.

Good family vibes through out the day. A lot of personality. Inside jokes all throughout—something about a yard gnome that had everyone laughing. I might’ve been slightly out of the loop on that one, but the energy was there and that’s what matters. It felt real.

After the ceremony, People grabbed drinks, the music picked up, and the dance floor filled in quick. Then came the second line. A full jazz band moving through the venue, everyone following along. That shift—from ceremony to full celebration—is always one of my favorite parts of New Orleans wedding photography.

And then toward the end of the night, Morning Call Coffee Stand came through with fresh beignets.

Hot, powdered sugar everywhere, people going back for seconds. If you’ve been to New Orleans, you know Morning Call. It’s a classic—coffee and beignets done right. Bringing that into a wedding is always a good move.

Great energy, people fully in it, and a couple that knew exactly how they wanted their day to feel. That’s what I’m always looking for as a wedding photographer in New Orleans. Not perfection—just a really good time, shared with the right people.

That’s what New Orleans wedding photography is all about.
