Margaret Place is one of those venues that feels like a hidden gem in New Orleans. It’s tucked away just far enough from the Quarter to give you peace, but close enough to still feel the heartbeat of the city. The courtyard is lush and intimate, the kind of space that transforms with every wedding.

This day started with some pre-ceremony photography. While the bride got ready, the groomsmen hung out and played Nintendo—a detail that set the tone for the day: relaxed, fun, and real. The couple are both deeply tied to the New Orleans music scene, and their wedding details reflected that perfectly. Their invitations looked like ticket stubs to a show. Small touches, but so them.

After they were dressed, we jumped into a first look, then portraits in the courtyard. The weather forecast was iffy, so they rented a clear-top tent for the ceremony. Honestly, that small choice made all the difference. The natural light poured through, and instead of the tent feeling like a backup plan, it made the courtyard of Margaret Place shine even more.

The ceremony itself was full of personality. A bubble gun for the ring bearer. Rock-paper-scissors to decide who gave their vows first. The kind of details that make a wedding feel like *their* wedding.

After the “I do’s,” everyone hit the street for a second line. Horns blasting, guests dancing—it’s always one of my favorite moments to photograph. I caught one of my favorite shots of the night here: the couple mid-dance, horns blurred in the foreground, pure joy on their faces.

The reception kept that same energy going. It ended with one of the most fun exits I’ve seen yet: a kazoo exit. Everyone laughing, playing, cheering the couple into married life.

As a New Orleans wedding photographer, it’s days like this that remind me why I love what I do. Weddings like these—filled with music, laughter, and a city that never fails to bring its magic—are what New Orleans weddings are all about. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in New Orleans, or just curious about what New Orleans wedding photography can capture, this day at Margaret Place is a perfect example.
