The Historic BK House & Gardens is one of those New Orleans wedding venues that feels timeless. Built in the 1820s, it’s tucked right into the French Quarter with lush gardens and a courtyard that makes you forget you’re in the middle of the city. The space feels both historic and intimate, the kind of place that’s perfect for small, heartfelt New Orleans weddings.
For this wedding, the couple wanted to skip pre-ceremony photos, so I met the groom on location. I’ll be honest—I was a little nervous because it was a rainy day. But the timing worked out perfectly. While waiting for the bride to arrive, I got portraits of the groom, who was rocking a seriously awesome kilt. The rain slowed to a mist, and everything in the garden had that damp, glistening look—like the flowers and greenery had been freshly polished.
When the bride arrived, we went straight into a first look. It was already sweet, but then the groom’s son came running up to greet them, and the moment turned into something unforgettable. That’s the kind of raw, emotional energy I love capturing as a wedding photographer in New Orleans.
We wandered into the gardens for portraits before the ceremony. Even with the wet ground, the space felt magical—quiet, calm, and full of color. The ceremony itself was small and intimate, set right there in the garden. You could feel the closeness of the family and friends who surrounded them.
Afterward, the party spilled out into the French Quarter with a second line. There’s just nothing like that energy—music, umbrellas, and strangers stopping on the street to cheer. It’s the kind of thing that makes New Orleans wedding photography so unique, every time.
Back at the BK House, the reception was relaxed but full of love. There were heartfelt speeches, laughter echoing through the old walls, and plenty of dancing. The night ended in one of the most personal ways possible: the couple singing together while the groom played piano. A perfect ending to a wedding that felt completely theirs.
As a New Orleans wedding photographer, it’s days like this that remind me why I love what I do. From the gardens to the second line to the music-filled reception, this wedding was everything that makes New Orleans weddings so special.
